Dining
Award winning - Chan’s Chinese Restaurant is virtually on our doorstep at North Beach Bowling Club. Sit on the veranda and watch the sunset over the river whilst enjoying dinner. A courtesy bus operates on weekends and during holiday periods from the park to the Bowling Club.
Relish, the bistro at the Federal Hotel in Bellingen, is getting quite a name in the area for its use of fresh local produce. Specialties include fresh local seafood straight from the sea to the plate and country home style cooking with a touch of modern flair.
The townships of Bellingen and Urunga are close by and offer an array of cafes and restaurants.
Beaches
Bellinger River Tourist Park is a short drive (2 minutes) from North Beach an unspoilt and uncrowded patrolled surf beach.
National Parks
Bellinger River Tourist Park is right on the doorstep of the Bongil Bongil National Park, here unspoilt beaches, sweeping coastal vistas, wetlands, littoral rainforest and pristine estuaries await you. Bongil Bongil National Park is home to one of the states largest koala populations. Treat yourself to a stroll along Bongil Beach or choose from a selection of short, flat bushwalks through the forest – a bird watcher’s delight! The waterways are ideal for canoeing and kayaking, while anglers will enjoy Bongil Bongil’s rock, beach and estuary fishing spots.
A little further a field, just over half an hour away, explore the Waterfall Way and Dorrigo National Park. The park contains one of Australia’s most accessible and magnificent stands of lush rainforests, World Heritage listed for their exceptional natural beauty, diversity and conservation significance. Perched on the dramatic eastern escarpment of the Great Dividing Range, the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre provides a hub from which to plan your rainforest experiences - from short elevated boardwalks to challenging wilderness walks.
Dorrigo National Park offers a stunning diversity of bird life - hear the songs of the Superb Lyrebird, Azure Kingfisher, Eastern Whip bird, Honey eaters and hundreds more. Picnic with Brush Turkeys or take the Wonga Walk to sit under the Crystal Creek Falls. The spectacular skywalk lookout takes you right over the top of the tree canopy for uninterrupted views to the coast.
Townships
Urunga, approximately 5 minutes drive from the park is a friendly seaside town at the junction of the Bellinger and Kalang rivers. Urunga has a unique seaside village character with plenty to do and numerous eateries. Urunga has our closest shops offering a small supermarket, chemist, post office, bakery, newsagents and doctors surgery.
Bellingen is a ten minute drive from the park. Bellinger River Tourist Park is the nearest park to the town of Bellingen. The town is at the epicenter of an extraordinarily creative and active population. For a small town it offers visitors a rare combination of rural charm, rich architectural heritage and a thriving cosmopolitan culture. Beautifully resorted heritage buildings line the streets providing great ambient spaces for the eclectic range of shops.
Don’t miss the monthly Bellingen Markets on the third Saturday or each month. Now celebrating its 25th year, Bellingen Markets features 250 stalls, live entertainment, kid’s rides and amusements, and an unbeatable atmosphere for all ages. Crowds pour into Bellingen to pick up supplies, check out the bargains, and to enjoy the lively social atmosphere.
Coffs Harbour is approximately a 20 minute drive north of the park and is the areas regional centre. Coffs Harbour offers great shopping, large supermarkets, the new jetty precinct and a wealth of holiday activities including the award winning Pet Porpoise Pool where you can get up close with a dolphin or seal.
Activities
- North Beach Bowling & Recreation Club is virtually on our doorstep. The club welcomes all visitors and social players to the bowls and social events.
- We have several golf courses nearby including the acclaimed Bonville International Golf Club which has been voted the most beautiful Golf Course in Australia. Other golf courses can be found in Bellingen and Urunga.
- The Bellinger River is a boating paradise. Launch your boat on our private boat ramp and travel upstream to Bellingen or explore the estuary and creeks in the local area.
- Fishing is one of the main pastimes here. Bream and Flathead seem to be the most regular fish with the odd Mangrove Jack. Don’t forget to bring your crab pots.
- Walks – try the Bundageree Rainforest Walk from Tuckers Rocks to Bundagen Headland (6km return). This gentle walk goes through remnant rainforest. For a shorter walk try the Bluff Loop Trail – this 1.8km return walk is through some magnificent coastal eucalyptus forest and offers the chance to see a koala.
